From mid-July
to the end of August, Joscelyn undertook a visiting artist residency in London, UK, in order
to conduct research at the Museum of London Docklands and to work with
various print collections housed by the Victoria & Albert Museum. While
there, she visited numerous exhibitions and continued to explore the legacy of
slavery as displayed in several grand country houses and their collections. In
particular, she explored Harewood House in Yorkshire (built in the 1700s by the Lascelles family who owned plantations in Barbados) and Danson House in Bexleyheath.
This
research will lead to a series of works that examine British genealogical histories across the Atlantic. This phase of the project
is being funded by a 2013 Canada Council for the Arts Project Grant.
