Joscelyn’s work is discussed in the
essay “Visual Caribbean: Images and
Imaginaries“ by Yolanda Wood Pujols in Caribbean: Art at the Crossroads
of the World, a handsome hard cover book edited by Deborah Cullen and Elvis
Fuentes and published by El Museo del Barrio, New York, in association with
Yale University Press, on the occasion of the exhibition Caribbean
Crossroads of the World that is taking place at three museums in New York
from 2012-2013. In this essay, Wood Pujols writes about the series of
lithographs called Plantation Poker: The
Merkin Stories (pp. 330-31, 333). She states, “The work goes beyond the
historical parameters of its subject and encompasses contemporary conflicts.
The textual and visual sources serve as the foundation of a work that is
remarkable for its detail and the artist’s critical and artistic strategies.”
